Aberdeen booked a Scottish Cup semi-final place against Celtic next month by winning 2-0 tonight at Ibrox.

Goals in each half from Niall McGinn and Connor McLennan booked their Hampden date with a third win of the season in Glasgow over Steven Gerrard’s side.

It was a text book performance from the Dons who had won seven consecutive away matches before drawing 0-0 with Celtic on Saturday.

McGinn opened the scoring in the third minute from a mistake by Glen Kamara with the visitors soaking up all the pressure without keeper Joe Lewis being overly tested.

The only downside for the Dons was a yellow card for Graeme Shinnie who will now miss the semi-final through suspension.

Celtic have beaten Aberdeen three times in the last three seasons at Hampden but in three clashes between the two clubs in Glasgow this season the aggregate score is just 2-0 for the hoops.

In the other semi-final Hearts will face Inverness Caley Thistle.
