After explaining the difference between four lions getting out of the cage and a football match against the seven times running champions of Scotland Steven Gerrard launched an amazing attack on the Croatian Football Association!
On the back of four matches without a win it seems that the prospect of falling 13 points behind Celtic is getting through to the former Liverpool u-18 coach.
A scan conducted on Borna Barisic after he got injured playing for Croatia against Hungry seems to have struck a nerve with Gerrard.
Bizarrely he seems to be suggesting that national associations should be flying injured players back to their club before the injury has been properly assessed.
“It is disappointing because he should be available,” Gerrard told the Daily Record about a thigh injury picked up by the left back. “He had a small chance but we never got him back till a couple of days later, for whatever reason.
“We pay the players’ wages. Out of respect for the club he should be on the first flight back and our medical team should take over.
“We’ll change the rules for all our players from the summer. If you’re not on the next flight, you are going to leave yourself wide open to a punishment.”
After his outburst about lions and cages it seems increasingly unlikely that Gerrard will be starting next season at Ibrox.
Defeat tomorrow would be a significant blow to the claims of progress with two tough matches against Hearts and Motherwell coming up before the SPFL split.
