Neil Lennon wants to see the ball reach the Celtic strikers quicker with more efforts finding the back of the net.

After taking over as caretaker boss last week the Irishman watched his side score four times in two visits to Edinburgh that keeps hopes of a treble treble very much alive.

Under Brendan Rodgers the plan was to wear teams down through possession but the opener last week against Hearts was a classic example of the counter attack as Ewan Henderson, Scott Sinclair and Oliver Burke created a goal for James Forrest.

Repeating that against packed defences won’t be easy but the new boss wants to see a little more urgency in the way that his side plays.

I think we can score more goals,” Lennon told Celtic TV. “I think we can get the ball forward a little bit quicker.

“We have great pace in wide areas and through the middle in an attacking sense so I would like us to utilise that a little bit quicker if we can but I understand teams like Hibs for example on Saturday and even Hearts when they went down to 10 men, they get back into shape very, very early, and sometimes you can’t move the ball quickly, and it requires a little bit of patience and probing.

“But maybe just varying attacks a bit more when we get into the final third – but you can’t have everything. The lads have been absolutely fantastic this season, the last two seasons and certainly in my tenure so far, even though it’s embryonic, they have played great.”

Lennon won’t be sidetracked by an emotional homecoming on Saturday when Celtic face Aberdeen looking to maintain their 100% record.

After being dropped in at the deep end with just over 24 hours to prepare for a visit to Tynecastle he has had a full week to set up his side for the visit of Aberdeen.

With European interest ended by Valencia a fortnight ago the fixtures are more spaced out with the caretaker boss knowing that securing two more trophies will make it very difficult for him to be overlooked for the permanent manager’s job.
