Martin O’Neill has given one of his favourite ‘pupils’ his seal of approval ahead of Sunday’s Glasgow derby.

Neil Lennon has known the derby atmosphere as a player and manager but this time around he goes into the match as Celtic’s caretaker boss.

While there were few dissenting voices when Lennon was appointed as caretaker there is a split among the Celtic support over whether he should get the job on a permanent basis.

Winning Sunday’s clash against Steven Gerrard and clinching the treble treble will go a long way towards giving Lennon the job with his old mentor confident he can handle the extra pressure.

You know what you are going to get from him,” O’Neill told Sky Sports. “You are going to get just about everything, put it all in that cauldron, mix it up and you’ll be fine if you are a Celtic supporter.”

Looking at the 10 point gap he added: “It’s a terrific lead to have, Rangers have to come and win the game to have any chance at all. At this stage of the season that is a very healthy lead but I don’t think that there will be any underestimation going on in the Celtic camp either.”

Lennon faced the club from Ibrox twice in December, drawing home and away as Hibs boss.

After the international break his squad has returned to Lennoxtown with all the signs suggesting that Kieran Tierney, Dedryck Boyata, Tom Rogic and Olivier Ntcham will be available for selection.
