Neil Lennon has revealed that Martin O’Neill gave him pelters over taking on the Celtic job!

Back in November 2000 the former hoops brought brought his old warrior north from Leicester City kicking off an on-off relationship that has lasted almost two decades.

Lennon returned as a coach under Gordon Strachan in 2008 and last week accepted a second invite to manage the hoops after the sudden departure of Brendan Rodgers.

O’Neill recently took charge of Nottingham Forest just a few months after stepping down as Ireland boss and couldn’t resist some friendly advise as Lennon took charge of Celtic, again.

I spoke to Martin after I was appointed, he gave me pelters,” the Celtic caretaker told The Sun. “But he did give me good advice too.

We had a good chat and he had a great win on Monday night so he was in good form. It was just the usual nuggets, ‘be yourself, don’t change too much but obviously rein it in a little bit’.”

Lennon will gather his thoughts together over the next couple of days then gear up for an emotional return home when Aberdeen visit on Saturday.

With just ten matches left in the SPFL Celtic are clearly in the driving seat thanks mainly to a 100% home record established under Rodgers.

Celtic have a 100% domestic record in 2019, maintaining that form through the remainder of this month will put them in touching distance of the title and Lennon’s fourth as a manager.
