The agent for Andre Villas-Boas has opened the door to an offer from Celtic.

At lunch time on Thursday Jean-Paul Lares distanced himself from speculation, mainly generated from bookmakers, that the former Chelsea boss could be a contender to replace Brendan Rodgers.

Villas-Boas is currently managing Chinese side Shanghai SIPG but his agent appeared to perform a u-turn when he spoke to The Sun.

Lares said: “Andre has the deepest affection for both Scotland and the Scottish people and the fondest memories of the time he spent there.

But we have received no offers from Scottish clubs and no decision has been made on his future, so there’s no way a valid comment can be made on this subject.”

The 41-year-old arrived at Chelsea in 2011 with the claim that he was the new Mourinho but despite paying £13m compensation to Porto he was sacked in March 2012 with Roberto Di Matteo taking over and winning the Champions League.

Spells at Spurs and Zenit St Petersburg failed to replicate the success that he had enjoyed at Porto before he moved on to China.

Celtic have made no comment on a permanent manager since Neil Lennon was appointed caretaker with the Irishman remaining the favourite to be in charge going into next season.
