Defender speaks out about Celtic interest

|

Bahlul Mustafazada has spoken out about the prospects of a move to Celtic.

In midweek the Gabala defender was linked with a summer move to Celtic with claims that he would be coming to Scotland for a trial.

Only a development fee would be required to sign up the Azerbaijan internationalist although a work permit could become an obstacle.

Speaking to The Sun explained: “I don’t want to comment on the situation at the moment, but of course I would want to play for a club like Celtic. If a contract proposal happened then I would certainly jump at it.

I’m out of contract at the end of the season, but at the moment I am fighting to try and ensure Gabala get into Europe.”

There are currently no players from Azerbaijan playing in Scottish football but Celtic have recently shown signs of spreading their scouting network further into eastern Europe.

Maryav Shved was signed from Karpaty Lviv in January with plans at an advanced stage to set up a coaching partnership with Polish side Korona Kielce.

With Dedryck Boyata and Filip Benkovic both leaving at the end of the season bringing in central defenders will be a priority during the transfer window but signing a 20-year-old from Azerbaijan would fit firmly into the project rather than tried and tested category.
