Celtic are interested in signing Tom Leighton from Watford.

The 18-year-old central defender joined the English side from Motherwell in 2017 but is looking to return to Scottish football after failing to progress as expected at Vicarage Road.

Leighton has played at u-19 level for Northern Ireland despite coming through the ranks at Braidhurst Secondary which is one of the SFA’s elite Performance Schools.

Celtic have still to commit to playing in next season’s Reserve League as the club searches for solutions to take players on the final development step from Academy to the professional ranks.

A fixture list of just 17 matches has left massive gaps in the season with mixed results gained from sending players out on loan.

Ross Doohan enjoyed the benefits of a full season at the top end of the Championship with Ayr United but others have been out on loan at Stranraer, Forfar and Dumbarton in a bid to get the experience to push towards first team football.
