Derek McInnes has been handed a one match touchline ban for his gesture during the Scottish Cup semi-final defeat from Celtic at Hampden.

With his side trailing 3-0 and down to nine men the Dons boss made a ‘get it up yeah’ arm signal that was picked up by fourth official Nick Walsh resulting in an instant dismissal by Craig Thomson.

McInnes didn’t go into detail about the reason for his action during an interview with Radio Scotland but after prompting at the general media conference he agreed that his reaction was in response to sectarian singing from Celtic fans.

Speaking earlier today at a media conference McInnes told the Dons website:

It is what it is and I’ll make comment after the hearing today. Thankfully we managed to change it because of Billy McNeill’s funeral tomorrow, which I was keen to attend. I’m just keen to get it resolved, but I admitted and was apologising right away on the day. That hasn’t changed because I wish I hadn’t responded, but I also feel there was real mitigating circumstances and hopefully that gets looked at as well.

Unless there is the possibility of an appeal McInnes will be in the stand for Saturday’s match against Celtic.
