Kris Boyd is giving up his place on the Kilmarnock bench to concentrate on his media career.

The world record scorer in the SPL (1998-2014) smashed all sorts of records but in a career that enjoyed three spells with Kilmarnock and two at Ibrox he only ever managed to score one goal against Celtic.

At a dead rubber at Ibrox in 2007 Boyd and fellow media favourite Charlie Adam were on the scoresheet in a 2-0 win for the home-side. After 12 years of trying for a second goal against Celtic the hit-man is hanging up his boots despite offers to keep on playing from a number of Championship sides.

The Sun reports:

KRIS BOYD is hanging up his boots after a record-breaking career.

SunSport can reveal the Kilmarnock legend, who will turn 36 in August, has played his last game.

Boyd has build up a nice portfolio of media work covering The Sun, Sky Sports and Radio Scotland where he goes into detail about the problems facing the Treble Treble holders. TalkSPORT listeners are often enlightened by his views as well.

Other than the occasional criticism of Dave King you’ll rarely hear Boyd comment negatively on matters at Ibrox.

At the start of the 2014/15 season Ally McCoist brought the striker back to Ibrox in a bid to win promotion to the top flight but after scoring three goals in 29 appearances there was no fresh contract on offer when the King regime took control.

Henrik Larsson scored twice against Celtic in European ties- for Tyrol Innsbruck in 1997 and seven years later for Barcelona.
