Celtic are reported to have ‘cooled their interest’ in Paddy McNair.

The Middlesbrough midfielder was linked to the hoops last week soon after David Turnbull’s proposed move from Motherwell was called off.

Having moved from Manchester United to Sunderland and onto Middlesbrough, McNair will be on a salary that is almost certainly in excess of Celtic’s top earners.

The Sun reports:

Lennon, who has cooled interest in Middlesbrough’s Paddy McNair, also confirmed Celtic have activated a break clause in Youssouf Mulumbu’s deal and released him.

Saturday’s signing of Luca Connell from Bolton gives Lennon an extra midfield or defensive option with interest in McNair greeted with little acclaim from Celtic fans.

With Christopher Jullien joining the squad in Austria Lennon is staring to put his mark on the squad which flew on to Switzerland today.

Both full-back positions are a priority for Celtic in the transfer market with three right-back’s moving on and Kieran Tierney still recovering from a double hernia operation.

Celtic will play two matches in St Gallen on Tuesday with a ‘reserve match’ scheduled for the afternoon to give as many players as possible 90 minutes of action.
