A decision is expected today in Dave King’s long running battle with Sports Direct.

Two years ago the South African based businessman claimed that he had terminated the merchandise deal set up with Mike Ashley’s firm but in their annual report the club revealed that they paid £3m to get out of one contract and set up another.

Last summer Sports Direct took the company to court after being denied the opportunity to match the terms of a new deal set up with a firm called Elite.

That action prevented the summer launch of the new Hummel range of kit although they did become available online in September then through a city centre store in December.

Sports Direct are claiming compensation for the missed business opportunity and legal costs as well as ensuring that the 2017 contract is adhered to.

The Evening Times reports:

Sports Direct owner Mike Ashley and bosses at Rangers Football Club are waiting for a judge’s ruling on the latest round of a long-running High Court fight over merchandise sales.

Judge Lionel Persey finished overseeing the latest in a series of hearings in London earlier this year. He is scheduled to publish a ruling on Thursday.

There has been claims that Sports Direct are looking for £10m in compensation, in the year to June 2018 the Ibrox club had a turnover of £33m.
