Once again BBC Scotland have been forced into an embarrassing apology to their partners at Ibrox.

In February 2018 tennis correspondent Kheredine Idessane blew apart the myth that Alfredo Morelos was the subject of transfer interest from Chine. Following contact from the PR team of the current club Idessane was forced into an embarrassing apology on his twitter account. As Steven Gerrard revealed in May the only offer in his time at the club for the Colombian was for three million euros.

Over the last few days many media sources have been airbrushing history to paint a dewy eyed picture of the signing of Maurice Johnston in 1989 and how it apparently redefined Scottish football and society. Sadly the club that signed him were put into liquidation in 2012 when the high spending (of other peoples money) and failure to pay Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs finally caught up with them.

After providing live radio commentary from Gibraltar yesterday Radio Scotland opted to revisit the Johnston signing, later on today they tweeted a correction to their content.

Despite their vast resources, funded through the BBC tax/licence the state broadcaster has been unable to shed any light on the long running legal battle between the new club at Ibrox and Sports Direct.

To the outsider is appears that last season’s massive upsurge in wages plus commitments in transfer fees was covered by Europa League football and ignoring the merchandise deal with Sports Direct.

The judgement on that case has been published, only the costs have still to be decided but despite the threat hanging over the club evidenced by a spend of £1m on SEVEN new players this summer BBC Scotland won’t shed any light on the detailed judgement given against the current club at Ibrox.
