Celtic fans were far from happy with news that Danny Simpson is heading to Lennoxtown for a trial period next week.
Another trial, in 2015 when he was found guilty of trying to strangle his ex-girlfriend, was causing concern as well as the fact that the 32-year-old made only three EPL appearances last season for Leicester.
Celtic’s search for a right-back has already reached epic status. Last summer the hoops lost out on Cristiano Piccini to Valencia while in January they failed to make progress in talks to sign Timothy Castagna of Atalanta.
Last week Tommy Smith of Huddersfield was the subject of speculation but it now seems that attention has turned to Simpson.
After being sentenced to 300 hours Community Service following his court case in 2015 Simpson went on to make 30 appearances for Leicester as they pulled off the biggest shock in EPL history by lifting the title having been priced at 5,000/1 at one stage.
Last season Simpson was barely used, getting a 14 minute farewell appearance under Brendan Rodgers in the final match of the season at home to Chelsea.
Despite the pressing need for a right-back it seems that many Celtic fans would rather go without than sign someone with a record for domestic violence.
Celtic haven’t commented on Simpson but last night’s report in The Sun seemed very definite on what is planned.
Danny Simpson will start training with Celtic on Monday. Good chance for him to earn a deal. Former Leicester star is not the only right-back Neil Lennon could sign.

But I don’t support Danny Simpson or Celtic buying him, because, he isn’t good enough & he’s a convicted of beating his girlfriend.
That doesn’t change the fact he’s legendary at the King Power Stadium because he was an integral part of Leicester City’s only title win.

To me, Danny Simpson’s conviction of violent domestic abuse is all I need for not wanting him at Celtic.
No ifs, no buts.

Meanwhile, former Leicester City right back Danny Simpson is reportedly joining Celtic on trial. The 33 year old left the EPL side at the end of last season after his contract expired. Playing just 10 times in all competitions last season & just once after Rodgers became manager.

How can our fanbase deal with having went years of making fun of Rangers for employing a wife beater, only to employ a wife beater, & he would be a poor signing anyways.
DO NOT SIGN DANNY SIMPSON, @CelticFC

Cant get my head around Danny Simpson. 32, has battered his missus and only played 9 times last season-we got rid of Mika for less. Celtic operating on the cheap again.
