Celtic have formally rejected a second bid from Arsenal for Kieran Tierney, according to a report in The Sun.

Derek McGregor broke the story of the first bid, believed to be around £15m, and claims that the ‘proposed structure’ of the £25m deal is now the stumbling block.

Sky Sports broke the story of the second bid on Saturday night but revealed little detail about the offer leaving it to others to create their own interpretation.

Celtic are unlikely to be expecting the full fee up front but £25m over 12 or 24 months plus at least a 10% sell on is likely to be the starting point for any successful bid.

Any offer that is dependent on Arsenal qualifying for the Champions League is doomed to failure with Unai Emery’s side sixth favourite for the EPL title with four Champions League spots up for grabs.

The Sun reports:

CELTIC have rejected Arsenal’s record £25million bid for Kieran Tierney. The Gunners lodged a second offer for the Hoops left-back over the weekend. But SunSport understands Celtic have told them that they won’t accept the proposed structure of the £25m deal.

Celts’ chiefs value Tierney in that price bracket but Arsenal’s total bid includes add-ons. The Premier League giants are now expected to adjust the terms and come back with a third offer.

Tierney is currently out of action due to osteitis pubis with the double hernia operation that he had in May the lesser of his concerns.

The deadline for transfers to the EPL is August 8 with no guarantee that the defender will be back in action by that date.
