Celtic have been linked with a move for Mitch Roberts.

In June Birmingham City announced that the central defender signed a professional contract but it appears that he could be sold with Manchester City credited with an interest.

The Sun reports:

CELTIC are lining up a deal to land Birmingham youngster Mitchell Roberts ahead of Manchester City. The Scottish champions’ transfer window remains open, which gives them the edge in the race for the 18-year-old defender.

In the past Celtic have signed Kundai Benyu and Armstrong Oko Flex from English clubs with just a token fee involved as compensation for a cross-border deal.

Roberts is under contract but appears to be available for transfer with Birmingham docked points last season for not complying with Financial Fair Play.

With Liam Morrison moving to Bayern Munich Celtic are a player short in central defence but against that there is no Reserve League giving games to players over the age of 18.

Celtic lost out after two rounds of the Tunnock’s Challenge Cup but have at least two more matches in the Reserve Cup and seven Glasgow Cup matches to play.
