Mo Elyounoussi has confirmed that Livingston was in the minds of the Celtic squad as they swept Aberdeen aside at Pittodrie.

For 48 hours Neil Lennon’s squad was praised from all sides for their Europa League win over Cluj but after being turned over by Gary Holt’s side there was no hiding place from the criticism.

Celtic barely mustered up a shot at goal in their defeat at Livingston, for two weeks the attitude of the squad was questioned as they moved swiftly from a great high to their first domestic defeat.

The same questions were being asked in the build up to the Aberdeen match with a lunchtime kick-off in the north east played against a backdrop of a bitter wind coming in off the North Sea.

Elyounoussi played his part in the first half masterclass that swept Aberdeen aside and ensured that the Europa League hangover was a one-off occurrence.

Covering his post-match media conference, The Sun reports:

We played well against Lazio on Thursday, but we also remembered what happened the last time after a European game when we lost at Livingston. Every team in the league wants to beat Celtic. Every game is tough.

Aberdeen had fresh legs and we knew it would be difficult. The Livingston game was in the back of our heads, but we just wanted to win and do our best.

With five of their next six SPFL matches at home Elyounoussi will be looking to consolidate Celtic’s place at the top of the table.
