Yesterday the SFA announced their match officials for this weekend and the Premiership fixtures on October 30.

With seven referees on the FIFA list you would expect them to be carefully spread across the matches involving the top clubs.

For reasons best known to the inner circle at the SFA, Bobby Madden will be in charge at Ross County on Wednesday for the visit of Steven Gerrard’s side.

In their 11th SPFL Premiership match of the season the East Kilbride based official will be in charge for the third time, 27% of the fixtures for the Ibrox club.

Even more remarkably it will only be Madden’s fourth SPFL Premiership match of the season meaning that 75% of his appointments have been with Gerrard’s side. His other match was Hamilton v August in August which wouldn’t have clocked up much mileage.

Having already taken charge of their home matches against Celtic and Aberdeen the SFA could have given Madden one of four SPFL fixtures this weekend. He hasn’t been given any match.

In midweek there are five other matches closer to his East Kilbride home but a trip to Dingwall has been selected.

Tonight, Madden is in Prague for Slavia’s match against Barcelona assisted by Dutch officials helping him out with the video stuff that the SFA appear uninterested in.

Interestingly, according to World Referee, Madden has been in charge of one match in the Saudi Premiership. It seems that fans of Al Feiha or Ahli are more likely to watch one of Scotland’s FIFA referees than Hearts, Hibs, St Mirren or Motherwell.
