Lee O’Connor followed up winning his first full international cap with a goal for the u-21 side as they came from behind to overwhelm Sweden 4-1 in a European Championships qualifier.

The Celtic defender was sent off during the 1-0 defeat away to Iceland, as he sat out a ban by playing against New Zealand Stephen Kenny’s side were winning 1-0 away to Armenia.

After yesterday’s win Ireland are in top spot in Group A but Italy have two matches in hand and trail by three points.

Last night Ireland fell behind in the 18th minute to a goal from Viktor Gyokeres but whatever happened at half-time certainly turned the game around.

O’Connor levelled four minutes into the second half with a brilliant run deep into the penalty box with further goals coming from Adam Idah, Troy Parrott and Zack Elbouzedi at Shamrock Rovers’ Tallagh Stadium.

After his international double header, the former Manchester United defender will be hoping to make in-roads towards the Celtic first team.
