Celtic fans reacted with fury to the SFA’s decision to reject Ryan Christie’s appeal against a two match suspension following an incident in last month’s Glasgow derby.

A year ago Christie was on the receiving end of a similar incident at Ibrox that went unpunished alongside two other physical attacks in the same match.

As ever with the SFA no explanation has been given for the differing outcomes leaving fans to speculate and guess at what went on in the corridors of power at Hampden.

Christie will now miss Celtic’s next two matches- away to Partick Thistle in the Scottish Cup and Kilmarnock in the SPFL Premiership. As a result of previous disciplinary points collected this season Christie will also be suspended for the match at St Johnstone on January 29.

While the SFA ban Christie for three matches at the end of March they will almost certainly call upon the midfielder to help Scotland through the play-off/s for the European Championships.

Scotland face Israel at Hampden with the winners travelling to play Norway or Serbia for a place in the finals.

With the SFA applying the laws of the game in a random manner there are more than a few Celtic fans wanting to see their players pulled out of Scotland duty. Last week on this site 90% of Celtic fans voted to withdraw players from Scotland matches in protest at the double standards demonstrated today.
