Charlie Nicholas has slammed Leigh Griffiths for his celebrations after scoring against Partick Thistle on Saturday.

It was the striker’s first goal since September, after netting from 10 yards out he ran towards the Celtic support with his fingers in his ears.

Rather than claim that it was a ‘game over’ gesture from Livingston Griffiths was happy to explain that his gesture was aimed at pundits and former players who have written him off- Nicholas falls into both categories with the Daily Record reporting:

Nicholas, in his Daily Express column, said: “I might annoy a lot of people with these comments, but I really don’t care. The celebration was wrong. It shouldn’t be about Griffiths – it should be about scoring a goal for Celtic.

“Mind you, I also got it wrong once. I did it, ironically, when I scored a goal against Partick Thistle, second time around. I kicked the boards because I was angry and I knew our club was in a mess.

“I got it wrong and Leigh also got it wrong in the same way on Saturday night. Don’t fight the world. He has to understand where he is, what his position is and who he plays for.

“Criticism or opinions from different people – and I am not talking about myself personally – doesn’t really matter.

Nicholas’ credibility with Celtic fans has nose-dived with his constant criticism of all matters Celtic. It seems that he is capable of finding a cloud whenever there is a silver lining.

After two stints as a player at Celtic he moved into the media and has become a regular on Sky Sports over the last 20 years where he is generally viewed as a former Arsenal player.
