James McFadden stepped in to replace Michael Stewart on Sportscene tonight.

The duo broke into the Scotland side under Berti Vogts almost 20 years ago with Faddy stepping in at short notice to star alongside another former Scotland star from that era- Steven Thompson for the highlights show from the SPFL Premiership.

Stewart’s future at the BBC seems in doubt after he made some outspoken comments about Jim Traynor on Radio Scotland’s Sportsound programme on Monday night.

Tuesday’s programme opened up with an apology to the Ibrox PR expert with Stewart dropped from Wednesday’s Radio Scotland coverage of the SPFL Premiership card.

On Monday Faddy told Sky Sports viewers that he expected the SFA Compliance Officer to cite Leigh Griffiths for a stamping incident during the match at Hamilton, a view shared by Thompson.

Stewart and Thompson have been the regular pundits on Sportscene over the last three seasons but it looks like that partnership could be over.
