Chris Sutton went on a classic fishing trip this afternoon when he was asked on BT Sport to explain the collapse in Steven Gerrard’s title challenge.
At the end of December the rookie boss was screaming into the Sky Sports cameras as he celebrated victory in the Glasgow derby to cut the gap at the top down to just two points.
For four weeks the celebrations barely stopped, then came Tynecastle with Gerrard claiming that his side was carrying eight passengers as he questioned whether they had the bottle for a title race with Celtic.
A week earlier the Anfield legend told a media conference that he was bored by the 2-0 Scottish Cup win over Stranraer.
“They’ve come out like a sputtering three wheeler..”
Points dropped by Rangers give Celtic the opportunity to go seven points clear. What do Stephen Craigan and @Chris_Sutton73 put that down to? pic.twitter.com/MRNHgggNEU

Since the defeat at Tynecastle things have went from bad to worse for the Ibrox title challenge.
Jermain Defoe will be out of action for at least a month with a calf injury picked up in the 2-0 laboured win over Ross County.
On transfer deadline day no offers came in for any Ibrox stars, Jordan Jones, Brandon Barker, Jordan Rossiter, Andy Halliday and Wes Foderingham remain on the pay-roll.
Worse of all is the situation involving Alfredo Morelos. For the fifth transfer window running the talk of a big money transfer has failed to deliver a serious offer.
The front page of the Sunday Mail won’t need translated into Colombian or Spanish which is worrying news for Gerrard who is left with Alfie and the third choice striker at Hibs to deliver on the expectations of fans who celebrated a title triumph on December 29.
