Hearts owner Ann Budge has told Sky Sports News that her club will take legal action against the SPFL if they are relegated to the Championship after 30 matches.

The claim is the strongest sign yet that the SPFL are preparing to declare the current league positions as final and award Celtic the title.

Hearts are currently four points adrift of Hamilton Accies at the foot of the Premiership table with just four league wins all season with three of them coming against top six opponents.

The SFA and SPFL are believed to be in talks at Hampden today with announcements effecting Scottish football expected from Boris Johnson today and UEFA tomorrow.

Budge’s interview clears the way for an obvious compromise with no club likely to object to no relegation in these exceptional circumstances. A one season 14 team top flight would keep most people happy with clubs effectively owing season ticket holders for four unplayed matches this season.

The problem with that would involve the play-off positions with three Championship clubs looking to move up to the top division, the same situation applies to the other two lower divisions.
