Alex Rae has reassured Ibrox fans that their club is in safe hands with Douglas Park as Interim Chairman.

On Friday night after failing to bring in the missing £10m to see out the season Dave King announced his departure to the Press Association.

Two and a half hours later the Ibrox club rushed out a statement announcing that Park had been appointed Interim-Chairman after five years of underwriting losses trying to stop Celtic.

Park has been a very successful businessman over the last 40 years building up his Motor Group but like housing and other sectors his firm is now badly exposed to the economic downturn.

Graeme Park was credited with recruiting Pedro Caixinha as manager in 2017 to replace Mark Warburton but it’s dad Dougie who is now in the hot-seat and responsible for seeing the season out while Sports Direct, Hummel/Elite and others await their pay day for court action caused by King.

Tonight, however Rae told The Sun:

You’re talking about one of the most successful businessmen in Scotland. You look at his company, he turns over hundreds of millions a year. I don’t think it’s anything to worry about.

I think we’re in safe hands at the moment and it’s a case of where we go from here on in. With the people who have invested fortunes, I think they will most certainly dip in again and see Rangers through this most difficult time.

I’ve met Dougie several times over the years. His business turns over hundreds of millions a year. You’ve got a guy who is a very sharp operator. The whole franchise that they have and bus companies, they turn over absolute fortunes.

In terms of what he brings to the table, he’s been in and around Rangers for a long time. He’s invested millions into what is going on at the moment and he’s very committed to what they are actually trying to do.

You take all that into consideration and you see that it’s a natural handover. Dougie was deputy chairman before, so it’s a natural step up from him.

He knows the running of the club, he knows exactly what’s needed, he would have been part of bringing Steven Gerrard to the club as well. It’s just about continuity at this moment in time.

It’ll be interesting to see what kind of chairman he is. I know Dave was very active on the emails because of the time difference in South Africa through the night and so forth.

He may well be a lot more accessible and that may well benefit Rangers as well. While King failed to deliver any major silverware during his chairmanship. no one can argue he leaves the club in a far better condition than he found them.

In November Rae exclusively revealed that fresh investment was on its way to Ibrox in time for the January transfer window. It never arrived.
