Willie Miller has admitted that pragmatism may have to come into play with the current SPFL standings declared as the final positions.

Scottish football was suspended on March 13, the day that Aberdeen were due to face Motherwell at Fir Park with just a point separating third and fourth place in the Premiership table.

BT Sport were set to screen the match but at 11am on matchday football came to a halt with Miller admitting that the current season may not be resumed.

In the Evening Express Miller writes:

If the leagues can be finished that would be the ideal scenario but that is looking less likely if an end of June deadline is enforced by Uefa.

Ultimately integrity may have to be binned and pragmatism take over with hard decisions made. No one will be happy with these decisions but we are in tough times and tough calls need to be made.

Then you freeze the table and it will come down to what a club has done throughout the season before the shutdown.

Celtic look like they will have won the league title regardless. Unfortunately for Hearts, they have had a poor season and are bottom of the Premiership while Dundee United have run away with their league in the second tier.

Everyone in the game would prefer to see the season resumed but in June as many as 25% of SPFL players will be out of contract, loan players are scheduled to return and the transfer window is due to open.

When football resumes teams could look very different to the first weekend in March when play was halted.

While saying nothing in public it would be incredible if the SFA and SPFL weren’t running through various different scenarios during the sittings of the Joint Response Group.
