JOHN BEATON will referee Sunday’s Glasgow derby!

It seems an incredible decision to put the Lanarkshire official in charge of the match following his problems in the December fixture last season.

Physical attacks on Scott Brown, Ryan Christie and Tony Ralston by Alfredo Morelos were viewed by Beaton with no action taken. The SFA Compliance Officer also refused to take any action.

Celtic issued their traditional angry statement six days after the match but had all of their concerns resolved over a private meeting at Hampden last February.

Beaton has had another horrendous season with the whistle, in December he issued a personal apology to Steven Gerrrard for not awarding his side a penalty during a 2-2 draw at Pittodrie.

Earlier this season Beaton was the subject of strong comments from Tom Boyd for refusing to award Celtic a penalty in the League Cup tie against Dunfermline. No apology was offered to Neil Lennon.

As is traditional with this fixture Tory MP Douglas Ross will be one of the assistant referee’s, the fifth time out of eight that the man from Moray has been allocated this fixture.
