SPFL clubs have been told not to expect any football before August.

A number of conference calls were staged at Hampden today as clubs prepared for a third weekend without any fixtures- or income.

Yesterday the SPFL were able to issue payments to all 42 member clubs but other than provide a little help with the March payroll that money won’t go very far.

Whether the current season is resumed or not is the big question but that seems unlikely to be answered until guidance is given from UEFA.

Covering today’s meetings, the BBC Scotland website reports:

Matters emerging from the series of meetings were:

  • No decision over finalising leagues has been made, with football not expected to resume until at least August
  • The SPFL is attempting to ensure commercial contracts for next season are secure
  • Championship clubs discussed issues such as a job retention scheme, advancing league fees, player registrations and transfer windows

Last week, similar meetings took place with one SPFL chairman describing it as “underwhelming”.

It is hoped more clarity will forthcoming next week that will allow clubs to plan for the forthcoming campaign.

Hearts and Aberdeen have already gone public about their concerns over coping with six months without any meaningful income.

More clubs are starting to put season tickets on sale for next season but with uncertainty over the remaining eight fixtures for this term and fans unsure about their own employments positions it’s unlikely that there will be much uptake on next season’s sales.
