Tom English has claimed that Ryan Kent is the embodiment of the problems at Ibrox.

After losing to Celtic on September 2 the Ibrox board sanctioned the £7m signing of the Liverpool starlet.

Earlier in the window Steven Gerrard had added Brandon Barker, Jordan Jones, Jake Hastie and Sheyi Ojo to his wing options as Jamie Murphy returned to full fitness.

Kent and his transfer fee have become the focus of criticism for Gerrard but after he scored against Braga the £7m man said that his side prefer going into matches as underdogs.

After losing twice to Hearts and falling 12 points behind Celtic Gerrard’s signing policy is being criticised with English believing that Kent highlights the issue.

Listening in to Radio Scotland last night The Sun reports:

Speaking on BBC Sportsound alongside Darryl Broadfoot, English said: “The thing is he (Gerrard) signed these guys. He signed Kent and Barker and Jones and Flanagan.

“And if you want to throw in as well Lafferty, Grezda, McAuley, Polster, Hastie, Stewart, Ejaria, Coulibaly, Sadiq and Worrall. He signed them all. 14 of them.

“Failures and I am going to include Kent in that. I think Kent is the embodiment of the problem at Rangers. The guy has talent but a guy who likes to be the underdog.

“He’s playing for Rangers. 90 per cent of the games plus that he plays every season for Rangers he will be the favourite to win. So that mentality is not a Rangers mentality.”

Kent signed a four year contract when he moved from Liverpool, keeping him at Ibrox until 2023. The wing wizard turned 23 in November and has scored 17 goals in his career to date.
