Celtic have been linked with a highly unlikely move for Brandon Soppy of Rennes.

It would be an incredible shock if Celtic were to splash out £7m on a teenager without a first team appearance but there are some strands of credibility to the claim for Soppy who is described as a right-back that can play in any defensive role.

With two gold stars and 70,000 followers on Twitter Manu Lonjon of Europsport must be doing something right with Celtic’s two highest paid transfer fees both going to French clubs for Odsonne Edouard and Chris Jullien.

RB Leipzig is accelerating strongly on Brandon Soppy (Rennes). Nice and Celtic (among others) also interested.

Soppy didn’t play against Celtic in either Europa League tie but did feature in the goal-less pre-season friendly between the clubs in Glasgow.

Wolves were credited with an interest in Soppy in November but like Karamoko Dembele it seems like the teenager is being tracked by all of the major clubs.

Celtic appear well covered at right-back with Jeremie Frimpong and Hatem Abd Elhamed jousting for the role with Moritz Bauer unlikely to be back at the club with his loan from Stoke running until May.

Soppy is a Celt? Who knows, we’ve had Dorus the goalie and Sadie the defender in recent seasons.
