Steven Gerrard has accused the SPFL of being desperate to finish the 2019/20 season off.

Since the turn of the year the Ibrox boss has watched Celtic stretch their lead at the top of the table from 2 points to 13 with the suspension of football halting that gap from growing any further.

Before the suspension was announced on March 13 Gerrard had watched his side lose to Hearts, Hamilton and Bayer Leverkusen with that sequence only broken by a 1-0 win at Ross County courtesy of an own goal from Dick Foster.

Gerrard’s decision-making was starting to come in for questioning with James Tavernier and Connor Goldson apparently undroppable the Ibrox side were set to finish another season trophy-less.

Just like in the close season and winter break Gerrard’s side gets more impressive the longer they go without playing.

Tonight the Ibrox boss gave an interview to BT Sport with The Sun reporting Gerrard saying:

I want to be back to work, I want to carry on with this season and I think with the majority of the players and the coaches, there’s a real will to finish the season off.

Unfortunately, that’s not the same case with the governing body who seem to me to be desperate to finish everything off and move on into the next season.

After months of problems the Ibrox pitch is currently being relaid. The Scottish Government has banned group training sessions before June 10, Andy Halliday is out of contract at the end of June.
