Gordon Smith has gone public with his Ibrox cash fears.

While Hearts, Hibs, Aberdeen and Celtic have gone public about matters ranging from Furlough payments, wage deferrals and pay cuts there has been nothing but silence out of Ibrox.

In November the club report revealed a projected £10m funding shortfall for the season with deal-maker Ross Wilson unable to raise a penny in January through player sales.

Dave King told shareholders that a fresh share issue would plug the hole in finances but on Friday night he stepped down with no sign of new investment at the club.

Smith was a director under Craig Whyte until February 2012 and fears that the signs aren’t good for Steven Gerrard’s club.

Covering his interview with Sky Sports News the Daily Record reports:

It’s hard to say how the club is going. The chairman resigned last week and we knew he was going to resign, but we don’t know if there’s money there.

There is talk that the finances are there, that there were people coming in with money, but with the wage levels Rangers have and no gate money coming in then it’s going to be quite tough for them to keep going.

It’s only if they have a measure of money there in the bank that can keep them going over this period. It’s quite expensive for a big club like Rangers without the money coming in.

Football was suspended on March 13 with five home matches left on Ibrox season tickets, matches against Celtic and St Johnstone plus two post-split fixtures.

Smith is also a former SFA Chief Executive.
