Hearts will back the bizarre plan from Ibrox to pay out SPFL prize money without the final places being determined.

At lunchtime yesterday the SPFL announced a plan to settle the three lower divisions based on average points won per game. The same formula could be applied to the Premiership at a later date.

Within a week of playing away to St Mirren Hearts announced plans for a 50% wage cut, it’s believed that the majority of their first team squad have rejected that move with PFA Scotland brought in to represent the players.

Like the Ibrox club Hearts appear to have serious financial problems but rather than own up they are using lower division clubs to cover their own needs.

On the Hearts website Ann Budge explains:

It was emphasised today that some clubs, particularly those in the lower Leagues, need funds to be released to help them navigate their way through this exceptional situation.

I do not accept however, that this resolution needs to be passed in order to release those funds.  If the Government can change the Laws of the Land, within 24 hours, to cope with this crisis, then surely it cannot be impossible for Scottish Football’s Governing bodies to modify rules to get things done.

This is a time for pragmatism, not rules.  There are other ways of addressing the current financial challenges and as such we will be supporting the Members Resolution being put forward by Rangers.

Lower division clubs have an in-built ability to survive, administration in recent times has happened at Hearts, Rangers, Motherwell, Dundee, Dunfermline and Livingston.

Forfar, Arbroath, Cowdenbeath and Alloa know how to cut their cloth to match their budget.

If the SPFL proposals are rejected on Friday there will be no prize money pay-out with clubs facing a lengthy stale-mate with no resolution to the season as two top flight clubs cover up for their own financial problems.
