BBC Scotland have told The Sun that Gregory Campbell’s interview on Sportsound was cut out from their podcast due to time constraints!

Anyone with a passing knowledge of web publishing will be well aware that it would take more time to edit out that section of the programme than to upload it in full as a podcast.

While the live show has to have a running order to cover all of the relevant topics no such problems exist with a podcast. It can run for any length of time such as the one hour midweek programme or the two hour weekend shows.

Campbell’s appearance on Sportsound was extensively criticised on social media. Presenter Richard Gordon asked a few questions, got nothing of meaning in return with Michael Stewart and Tom English refusing to follow up.

Other guests on the show join in conversations and questioning with the other pundits.

Tonight, The Sun asked the state broadcaster about the podcast from yesterday’s show.

A spokesperson told SunSport: “We thank Mr Campbell for taking part in the live discussion on Sportsound to explain his reasons for raising the issue in Parliament. However, due to time constraints with the duration of the podcast and as far as moving the story forward, we decided to use other contributors in the podcast.”

The last time that a podcast was edited was in February when Stewart criticised Ibrox PR chief James Traynor. The recording of that show never made it to podcast but is widely available on social media. Stewart was suspended from the BBC for three weeks.
