Charlie Nicholas is claiming that he played a role in Celtic’s title success.

The former Scotland striker has been a persistent critic of his old club with one of his most bizarre attacks being that Odsonne Edouard doesn’t celebrate his goals enough.

French Eddie as the fans glowingly refer to the former PSG striker has been in consistent form from day one, finishing top scorer in the Premiership with 22 goals from starting 25 matches plus two substitute appearances.

Edouard turned 22 in January but has already played a major role in three SPFL triumphs which is one more than Nicholas achieved in his entire career.

Picking up on his column in the Daily Express, The Sun reports Nicholas saying:

The rebirth of Odsonne Edouard and Fraser Forster’s return were key to Celtic securing nine-in-a-row.

I’ve never questioned Edouard’s ability but I wasn’t sure if he had the appetite and he didn’t take kindly to me pulling him up last September about his lack of celebration after scoring.

After that he started smiling more and became a real team player and a standout performer. He is the star man and that’s what I was hoping would come out.

Edouard has been a consistent scorer for Celtic all season, his longest spell without finding the net was three matches between scoring in the 4-0 win at Aberdeen on October 27 and netting against Motherwell in a 2-0 win on November 10.

Adding to his 28 goals in all competitions for Celtic he netted 11 goals for the French u-21 side.
