Celtic are poised to be announced as 2019/20 Premiership champions with the top tie clubs going through the motions to conclude the season is over at a Monday morning conference call.

The board of the SPFL has the backing of over 80% of member clubs to call the season over with Dundee United, Raith Rovers and Cove Rangers already crowned as champions.

On Monday morning the current Premiership clubs, plus Dundee United, will tune in to a Zoom call to give the appearance of having authority and granting the title to Celtic. The 2019/20 title has been earned on the park and will be confirmed tomorrow.

The Daily Record reports:

Celtic are set to be crowned champions after an emergency SPFL board meeting on Monday morning.

Record Sport understands the conference call is scheduled to begin at 10am with discussions about ending the current top flight campaign the only topic on the agenda.

With the season cut short the final placings will be based on average points per game with Neil Lennon’s side racking up an impressive 2.67 per match.

Over the course of 30 games the hoops have only dropped 10 points, since returning from their break in Dubai Steven Gerrard’s side have dropped 13 points in 10 matches.

Declaring Celtic as champions will allow the SPFL to pay out the final £7.5m of prize money for the current season.
