Dave King has been blamed for an angry fall-out between Gary Player and his 60-year-old son Marc.

In the late nineties the former Ibrox chairman managed to work his way into Player’s inner circle, joining the legendary golfer at The Masters in Augusta.

Litigation has followed King over the last two decades but that didn’t prevent him from getting the red carpet treatment from the Scottish football authorities despite being on the board of Rangers as they entered administration in 2012.

In April, after five trophy-less seasons, King walked away from the chairman’s role at Ibrox with his reign highlighted by being cold shouldered by the Takeover Panel.

Now back in South Africa King has been blamed for a dispute that has split the Player family as Bunkered reports:

According to Marc Player, the man to blame for all of this is Dave King, who, earlier this year, ended his five-year reign as chairman of Rangers FC.

“It is with great sadness that both my personal and business relationship with my father has deteriorated to the extent that it has,” said Marc. “Anyone that really knows me would agree that I have always tried to help my parents with everything from the business to their personal lives.

“This has been a long, tiring, costly, emotional and tedious process pitting father against son. I have genuinely tried to reconcile with them and amicably resolve our dispute and it is a shame that we have not been able to do so due to their new advisor, Dave King, and his malicious and continuous tortious interference in what should have been a private family matter.”

King left without bringing in any of the £10m that he promised shareholders at the 2019 AGM in November.
