Steven Gerrard is facing competition in his bid to bring Vaclav Hladky to Ibrox.

The 29-year-old is out of contract with St Mirren tomorrow and confirmed in November that he had been in talks about a move along the M8.

Wes Foderingham and Jak Alnwick haven’t had their Ibrox deals renewed leaving Gerrard short of experienced cover in a critical position.

Behind Allan McGregor the Ibrox boss only has the lesser talented McCrorie brother, Robbie and former Barrow shot stopper Andy Firth.

Discussing Hladky’s options The Sun reports:

RANGERS face a battle for Vaclav Hladky after German side Fortuna Dusseldorf joined the race for his signature.

The Bundesliga outfit contacted the St Mirren keeper’s representatives to register their interest. But it will depend on them staying in Germany’s top division.

Hladky’s St Mirren deal expires tomorrow — after which he’ll be free to sign for a new club. Three English teams have tabled an interest, along with Steven Gerrard’s side.

The signing of a back-up keeper is unlikely to shift many season tickets which suggests that Hladky won’t be joining the Gerrard Revolution.
