Jon Flanagan is a transfer target for Joey Barton at Fleetwood Town.

The former Liverpool defender had a disastrous two year spell at Ibrox, failing to make any real impact on established full-backs James Tavernier and Borna Barasic.

In 2014 Flanno was one of two players on stand-by for England’s World Cup Finals squad but since that point his career has gone downhill sharply.

Barton has taken Jason Holt and Jordan Rossiter on loan since taking charge of Fleetwood and has similar values to Flanagan who made his last appearance of the season in the Scottish Cup defeat away to Hearts.

The Sun reports:

FORMER Rangers star Jon Flanagan is a target for Joey Barton’s Fleetwood Town. Flanagan is available on a free after his contract expired at Ibrox last month.

The ex-Liverpool full-back, 27, is keen to return to the North West after two years in Scotland. However, it’s unclear whether he would be prepared to drop down the divisions to play League One football.

Andy Halliday is also expected to be a Fleetwood target with no MLS interest in the former Bradford utility man.
