Most foreign players don’t need much encouragement to leave Glasgow behind- hopping on a plan for a holiday or trip back home at the slightest excuse.

A global pandemic is more than an excuse but rather than head back to France Odsonne Edouard stayed put at the place that has been his home since 2017.

The striker goes about his business off the park as quietly and effectively as he does in front of goal. No fuss.

Callum McGregor is much the same and appreciates the way his team-mate gets on with things with every indication that they’ll both be around for what could be a historic season in Scottish football.

McGregor told The Sun:

Odsonne’s got a big platform to show what he can do this season. He deservedly won the Player of the Year awards and he’s so important to what we are trying to do.

It’s great news to hear he wants to stay. The fact he didn’t go back to France during lockdown speaks volumes in terms of where he’s at mentally.

Odsonne seems to be happy at the club. We’ve got a great changing room and everyone in the building is friends. He feels comfortable and he knows he’s playing at a high level. When you are happy in football, it’s a big decision to change that.

At the end of this week Celtic should find out the qualification route to the Champions League group stage with the usual mid-July start shelved.

Next week the SPFL are expected to announce the Premiership fixtures as Neil Lennon’s squad set out to win a 10th successive title.
