Steven Gerrard is set to put in a bid to bring another midfielder to Ibrox!

As he prepares for Saturday’s SPFL opener at Aberdeen the Ibrox boss has Ryan Jack, Glen Kamara, Steve Davis, Joe Aribo, Scott Arfield and Greg Docherty competing for three slots.

In attack Jermain Defoe is out of action due to a hamstring injury leaving the unsettled Alfredo Morelos as the only strike option but according to The Sun another midfielder could be on his way.

They report:

RANGERS will decide whether to move for Bongani Zungu in the next 48 hours. The 27-year-old Amiens midfielder has been on the Ibrox club’s radar all summer.

Reports in France claimed a fee of around £3.6million had been agreed but SunSport understands Gers have yet to table a formal offer for the South African international.

Boss Steven Gerrard admires Zungu and Rangers haven’t ruled out a bid ahead of Saturday’s SPFL curtain-raiser at Aberdeen.

Zungu was strongly linked with a move to Ibrox while Gerrard’s side took part in the Lyon Vase tournament with the Daily Record claiming that the player has turned down Celta Vigo to keep his Ibrox dream alive.

The 27-year-old has played 52 Ligue Un matches over the last three seasons, scoring two goals for Amiens with his contract expiring next summer.

Last season Amiens finished bottom of the league, winning four out of 28 matches.
