Celtic are still working to have Ryan Christie available for Saturday’s Glasgow derby.

Despite following social distancing protocols the midfielder was ruled to be a close contact of Stuart Armstrong while he was on international duty.

Kieran Tierney was also caught up in the same incident with Mikel Arteta confirming at a media conference on Thursday that they were working to get the defender into their side to play Manchester City on Saturday.

Christie has tested negative since going into self-isolation with his place in the derby fixture put in doubt by an official from the Test and Track team after one phone call to Armstrong.

Hatem Abd Elhamed and Nir Bitton are both unavailable but Celtic haven’t ruled out having their Scotland midfielder available to Neil Lennon.

Tonight, the Daily Record reports:

Record Sport understands the champions believe Christie should be cleared to take part in the first Old Firm derby of the season despite being ordered to self-isolate for a fortnight by government health officials 11 days ago.

And they are closely monitoring an attempt by Arsenal to have Kieran Tierney made available for their Premier League showdown with Manchester City at the weekend.

A source said: “We are watching the situation with Kieran and Arsenal very closely but we will have to wait and see how those discussions go. Obviously, if Arsenal are given permission for him to play on Saturday then it would be difficult to understand why the same would not apply to Ryan.”

In June, in his only newspaper interview of the year, Peter Lawwell spoke to Keith Jackson about his hopes to host a Trail Event in front of fans before the SPFL season started. So far, no fans have been inside Celtic Park for any matches.
