The Daily Record has cranked up their Ibrox love-in with a story linking Steven Gerard to the England manager’s job. Yesterday they were running a comparison between Ianis Hagi and Zinedine Zidane.

A 1-0 defeat at home to Denmark didn’t go Gareth Southgate any favours with many in the English media expecting their brave lads to be crowned European Champions next summer.

Losing at the home of football to some second rate Vikings wasn’t on the script with the Record keen to add to the feeling that Mister Gerrard is a top managerial talent.

That will be the guy that lost two cup ties to Derek McInnes in season 2018/19 and went into Lockdown earlier this year with defeats from Hearts and Hamilton, both at the bottom of the Premiership at the time, hanging over his shoulders.

Excitedly the Daily Record reports:

And after a 1-0 loss at home to Denmark on Wednesday night, bookmakers are beginning to look at who could replace the former Middlebrough boss in that role, with Rangers manager Steven Gerrard high on the list.

The Ibrox gaffer has long been expected to eventually take over at Liverpool if he manages to make himself a success at Rangers, but could the lure of the Three Lions take him away from Glasgow?

It seems unlikely that he would take on that role so early in his career but the bookies now have him as joint third favourite for the job, ahead of the likes of Frank Lampard and former Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers.

Gerrard is alongside ex-Bournemouth gaffer Eddie Howe at 10/1, with just Burnley’s Sean Dyche and Brighton’s Graham Potter ahead of them. William Hill also have Rodgers at 12/1 while the likes of Phil Neville, Dean Smith and Chris Wilder are also among the selections.

Prior to taking up the manager’s job at Ibrox Gerrard was head hunted by MK Dons.
