Kundai Benyu is set to join Wealdstone subject to international clearance.

The 22-year-old was billed as a ‘Dembele deal’ when he joined Celtic in the summer of 2017 after falling out with Mick McCarthy at Ipswich and catching the eye on loan at Aldershot.

Now three years and four Celtic appearances later Benyu finds himself back in the National League after a bizarre time at Celtic despite having a year left on his contract.

Loan stints at Oldham and Helsingborgs resulted in just a handful of appearances but the London born midfielder did enough to be selected for the Zimbabwe national squad.

Now, 14 months after his final appearance for Helsingborgs he is ready to relaunch his career in North London.

West London Sport reports:

Wealdstone have agreed the signings of Kundai Benyu, Charlie Wakefield and Alex Dyer.

Full-back and winger Wakefield has joined the club having last played for Coventry City and is available for selection for tomorrow’s National League opener against Chesterfield. He started his career at Chelsea and has been capped at England Under-17 level.

The club are still waiting on international clearance for midfielder Dyer, who had a spell with the Stones back in 2013 and last played for Al-Tadamon SC in Kuwait.

Benyu (pictured) is also waiting on international clearance to finalise his move from Scottish giants Celtic. The 22-year-old has spent time on loan at Oldham Athletic and Helsingborg having started his career at Ipswich Town.

Finalising the transfer from the SFA tomorrow should be a fairly straightforward task.

A number of younger Celtic players are likely to be involved in transfers tomorrow, with no Reserve League it will be difficult to provide any competitive action for players outside the first team squad.
