Neil Lennon has dropped a heavy hint that Leigh Griffiths will be in his starting XI against Motherwell at Fir Park today.

The striker came off the bench to score against Sparta Prague in midweek- following on from a similar rescue act at Aberdeen 11 days earlier.

Straight after the defeat from Sparta Chris Sutton was highly critical of Griffiths with the striker on the phone to challenge the BT Sport pundit.

Lennon has had plenty of ups and downs with Griffiths this year but with the stakes higher than ever at Motherwell today the two men are heavily reliant on each other.

Reacting to the Sutton v Griffiths debate, Lennon told the Daily Record:

Pundits are pundits and Chris is no different to anyone else. But whether I agree with him or not is another thing and I’m pretty sure Leigh can hold his own with anybody.

Leigh has our full backing. He scored in the game when he came on against Sparta Prague and in terms of his contribution I was really pleased with him.

He’s getting close to starting games again. He started against AC Milan a few weeks ago and didn’t last the course but the way we are using him right now is beneficial for both sides, for Leigh and the team. It’s a possibility that he’ll start against Motherwell.

Team news will come out at 10.45 this morning with fans looking out for signs of culture change on the back of three successive home defeats.

Griffiths is the only striker to have scored in the last six matches with Moi Elyounoussi and Ryan Christie the main scoring contributors.
