Keith Jackson has warned the Celtic hierarchy that they will be accused of gross mismanagement if they fail to sack Neil Lennon.

Last week the chief football reporter of the Record was informed by a contact of Dermot Desmond that Lennon would be staying on despite the 2-0 Betfred Cup defeat from Ross County.

Two more sub-standard performances and predictably poor results have heightened the anger of Celtic supporters with Desmond and Peter Lawwell expected to take overdue action.

Lennon has been a useful distraction from their own failings, so far confined to the European stage, but the time has passed for the Celtic hierarchy to show leadership and authority rather than hide behind loyalty to an employee who has ran out of time.

In the Monday Jury in the Daily Record:

Have Dermot Desmond and Peter Lawwell been left with no choice but to call time on Neil Lennon’s spell as boss?

Keith Jackson: They’ll stand accused of gross mismanagement if they don’t act before any more damage is done. This Celtic squad is far more talented than the recent results under Lennon suggest. if he can’t get them winning then somebody else should have a try before it’s too late.

Lennon was famously handed the Celtic job on a permanent basis following the 2019 Scottish Cup Final win over Hearts.

Lawwell opted to announce the decision in front of the media at Hampden but so far this season the Celtic CEO has kept a low profile with very limited communication with the fans.
