Alan Thompson has conceded that Celtic are in need of a change of manager.

The former Celtic midfielder was assistant to Neil Lennon for two seasons, winning a Scottish Cup followed by the SPL title in 2012 before being dramatically sacked during the close season.

For over a decade Lennon and Thompson seemed the best of buddies before the shock move to cut the former Bolton and Aston Villa midfielder.

Lennon’s former Celtic team-mates have been very defensive of the Irishman, encountering the wrath of hoops fans on Social Media for their backing.

Thompson has been a bit of a maverick since joining Twitter but came to the conclusion that it is time for change after watching Celtic’s insipid 1-1 draw at home to St Johnstone.

After the match Lennon gave no hint that he is on the verge of resigning when he spoke to the media with the focus now on Peter Lawwell and the Celtic board to end the dismal run of two wins in 12 matches.
