The incredible statistic of the Premiership season

With 25 matches played this season Steven Gerrard’s side are the only one in the Premiership yet to concede a penalty.

It is an incredible stat, even while coasting to victory it seems that referees won’t even award a token penalty against the league leaders to make things look a bit better.

In the Betfred Cup tie at St Mirren an injury to Andrew Dallas saw fourth official David Dickenson forced to take charge and award a penalty against the Ibrox side on December 16. They lost the match 3-2.

Since then Dickenson has been kept clear of top flight fixtures although he is down to be Fourth Official at next week’s Aberdeen v Livingston match. On Saturday he will referee the match between Morton and Arbroath.

While Gerrard’s side have been avoiding penalties being awarded against them the teams in second, third and fourth place in the SPFL haven’t had anything like that good fortune.

Aberdeen, Hibs and Celtic are third, fourth and fifth in the table of penalties conceded.
