Cameron Harper is set to join New York Red Bulls with a fee reportedly agreed with Celtic.

The 19-year-old forward started last month’s match at home to Hibs when 13 players were forced to self isolate but hasn’t ever been in contention for a first team place.

Harper caught the eye in the 2019 SFA Youth Cup Final as Celtic lost 3-2 to their city rivals from Ibrox but the lack of a worthwhile framework to advance his career has hampered his development.

From that side Liam Hughes and Liam Morrison have already moved elsewhere with Karamoko Dembele and Armstrong Oko-Flex expected to leave this summer when their contracts expire.

Although Lockdown has had a big impact the lack of regular fixtures has left young players training through the week with just the occasional Behind Closed Doors match to test themselves in.

Covering Harper, the Daily Record reports:

New York Red Bulls have agreed a fee with Celtic to sign Cameron Harper. The Major League Soccer outfit and the Hoops have thrashed out an undisclosed fee that will see the 19-year-old return to his homeland with immediate effect.

Red Bulls were on the verge of signing Harper on a pre-contract but have managed to do a deal that suits both parties now. The United States Under-20 cap will now join up with his new teammates before MLS pre-season training starts this month.

Harper did join Celtic for their pre-season trip to France in July but was left out of the squad that trained in Dubai which ironically opened the door for his one and only first team appearance.

CELTIC team in 2019 SFA Youth Cup Final:

Liam Hughes, Dylan Forrest (Michael Sparkes, 76’), Brody Paterson, Liam Morrison, Chris McQueen, Paul Kennedy (Ben Wylie, 69’), Karamoko Dembele, Barry Coffey, Cameron Harper, Scott Robertson (Dave McKay, 45’), Amstrong Oko-Flex
