The Glasgow Times appears to have pulled the plug on a feature listing the 20 Worst Celtic Signings under Peter Lawwell.

On Tuesday morning the publisher shared with their readers a story of the £170m profit from 20 players sold during the tenure of the outgoing Celtic CEO.

The Southampton connection is well known led by Virgil van Dijk with Stuart Armstrong, Fraser Forster and Victor Wanyama creating a profit of close to £40m when van Dijk’s sell-on to Liverpool is included.

Over the last three years Moussa Dembele, Kieran Tierney and Jeremie Frimpong have been sold with a profit of over £50m but with the current season looking doomed before the end of January questions are being asked about how that money was re-invested.

While Herald & Times led the cheerleading for Lawwell’s brilliance in the transfer market there has been another side with a number of disastrous and costly signings- especially with strikers.

Teemu Pukki, Derk Boerrigter and Amido Balde were all bought during the disastrous 2013 summer transfer window. Their contribution was minimal, the cost alarming with all three quietly ushered out the door and best forgotten.

Lawwell will remain in place till the end of June, whether his influence is on transfer dealings during his final month remains to be seen.

During the year to 30 June 2019 he picked up a massive salary of£3.5m on Celtic’s turnover of £83.4m.
